FOUNDATION STAGE NEWS – FUN IN THE FOREST!

Toasting marshmallowsA group of foundation stage children have recently completed a six week outdoor learning programme called ‘Forest Schools’.

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust ‘Forest School programme’ offered some of our children a fantastic opportunity to participate in an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning.

Forest School

Each week two experienced environmental educators have taken a small group of children for ‘Forest School’ activities in the Moston Fairway Nature Reserve near Broadhurst school.

Starting on Thursday 8th October the children visited their forest school for two hours each week for six weeks.

Parents and staff enjoyed the sessions as much as the children. We learnt many things about respect for nature and about forests.

Children have played with resources from a Mud and mark making box, a storytelling and book box, a creative and fantasy play box and a minibeast box. We particularly enjoyed sitting around the log circle drinking hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows!

Foundation Stage staff will be revisiting the Moston Fairway Nature Reserve with small groups of children during spring 2010.
